Job Summary (Overview)

RISD Continuing Education educates students of all ages in art and design with high quality, accessible programs, courses, lectures and workshops. Its art and design for everyone.

Continuing Education at RISD is seeking a part-time Program Manager, Digital and Interactive Design Studies. This Program Manager is responsible for researching, planning, staffing, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating and implementing offerings in Digital and Interactive Studies. This includes certificate programs, courses, conferences, seminars and special events, in areas such as Animation; Interactive Design, Photography and Digital Foundations.

In addition the Digital and Interactive Design Studies Program Manager:

-Actively engages other Program Managers, Technicians and key CE faculty in order to develop, recommend, implement and assess online learning initiatives in Digital and Interactive Studies.

-Hires, orients, supervises and evaluates course instructors.

-Maintains standards of current programs and proposes ideas for new programs.

-Makes suggestions for cross-disciplinary initiatives and for the integration of technology into traditional by-hand subject areas.

-Serves as initial point of contact on a variety of digital inquiries/issues and engages faculty, staff, and students as appropriate to reply/resolve.

The ideal candidate will will have three to five years’ experience in art education and/or program development/implementation in an arts or continuing education environment with a demonstrated understanding and ability to stay abreast of current trends and developments in field (specifically with interactive media). We prefer teaching experience at the post-secondary level as well as prior supervisory experience. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse population, a must.

Essential Functions/Duties

Research, develop, recommend, implement and evaluate assigned programs and courses for CE. Keep current with external trends and technological advances in field, including interactive media. Extensive knowledge of video production and editing. Actively consult with practitioners to identify areas appropriate for development. Set annual program goals, enrollment and targets. Assess program outcomes and make recommendations to Assistant Director as appropriate.

Serve as subject matter expert and central point of contact for all assigned programs and ensure that standards, procedures, and academic policies are maintained and updated as appropriate. Responsible for identifying and resolving issues regarding grades, instructor relations, and satisfaction with courses and course content.

Recruit, train, contract and evaluate selected faculty. Responsible for overall communication with instructors. Engages the Events + Logistics Manager to solve a variety of logistical and supplies issues.

Actively engages the Assistant Director, Technician(s) and additional staff to solicit feedback, research, develop and assess online learning courses.

Prepares comprehensive descriptions for all courses and programs in his/her area for final review and approval by the Assistant Director. Insures the timely flow of course descriptions/content and contract information.

Proactively engages the Assistant Director, Advising + Registration on student advisement issues and counsels current and prospective students as necessary.

Advises the Assistant Director on program and faculty assessment initiatives, thus contributing to the establishment of annual goals, objectives, and action plans.

Job Qualifications Required

BFA, BA/BS required, MA, MFA preferred, in appropriate discipline such as art, design, art education, arts management or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Three to five years’ experience in art education and/or program development/implementation in an arts or continuing education environment.

Demonstrated understanding and ability to stay abreast of current trends and developments in field and specifically with interactive media.

Understanding of learning management systems and online learning tools as well as some familiarity with registration database software packages.

Prior supervisory experience.

Job Qualifications Preferred

Teaching at the post-secondary level, a plus.

The successful candidate will be required to meet our pre-employment background screening requirements.

Other than regular hours (typically 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Mon-Fri.)

Some evening and weekend hours are required.
